Find an Art School:

Becoming a Professor of Art

Professors at schools of art and design can teach a diverse group of students in a variety of fields.  Schools of art and design offer courses in graphic design, pallet manufacturing and designing, photography, picture framing, press operations, printing, production, illustration and style, among other courses. If you are interested in any of these fields and have the drive to study hard and gain important professional experience, you could become a professor of art.

An Associate Professor of Art with a specialization in Animation and Graphic Game Programming can earn up to $47,000 a year at the New Hampshire Technical Institute. This professor would instruct students, and create curriculum and evaluation techniques in this field.  Experience with programs taught at most schools of art and design is necessary, for example: Macromedia/Adobe Flash and Microsoft programs.

In order to be a professor at an art and design school, a master’s degree from a recognized college or university is required.  For this position, a degree in graphic design is preferred.

It might seem a long way off, but by beginning coursework toward a degree at a school of art and design, one day you could teach the course.
